When it helps

Connect equipment losses to basic conditions, planned maintenance and shared ownership.

Data and preparation

Stops, minor stops, defects, maintenance history, base conditions and speed losses

Practical workflow

  1. Define equipment and priority losses.
  2. Restore base conditions and inspection standards.
  3. Separate operator tasks from specialist maintenance.
  4. Plan prevention from failure modes and data.
  5. Measure loss reduction and update standards.

Connection to AIAG

This is a supporting Continuous Improvement method, not an AIAG Core Tool. In QAPP, findings can feed a CQI-20/8D problem-solving workflow and, when the process risk/control changes, trigger review of PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA/SPC or other applicable Core Tool records.

Interpretation limits

Do not use the tool as a ritual. Define a measurable problem, baseline and decision rule, then verify whether the change improved the process without creating another risk.
