When it helps

Reduce changeover time by separating internal from external activities and simplifying the remainder.

Data and preparation

Activity times, sequence, resources, movements, adjustments and first good piece

Practical workflow

  1. Time the real changeover from last good to first stable good piece.
  2. Separate internal versus external work.
  3. Convert as much internal work as possible to external.
  4. Simplify clamps, adjustments and movements.
  5. Standardise and confirm repeatability.

Connection to AIAG

This is a supporting Continuous Improvement method, not an AIAG Core Tool. In QAPP, findings can feed a CQI-20/8D problem-solving workflow and, when the process risk/control changes, trigger review of PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA/SPC or other applicable Core Tool records.

Interpretation limits

Do not use the tool as a ritual. Define a measurable problem, baseline and decision rule, then verify whether the change improved the process without creating another risk.
