When it helps

Structure direct process observation before proposing solutions.

Data and preparation

Purpose, area, factual observations, deviations, questions, actions and follow-up

Practical workflow

  1. Define the purpose of the walk.
  2. Observe and ask without turning it into a punitive audit.
  3. Separate facts from interpretation.
  4. Record obstacles and opportunities.
  5. Follow actions and return to verify results.

Connection to AIAG

This is a supporting Continuous Improvement method, not an AIAG Core Tool. In QAPP, findings can feed a CQI-20/8D problem-solving workflow and, when the process risk/control changes, trigger review of PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA/SPC or other applicable Core Tool records.

Interpretation limits

Do not use the tool as a ritual. Define a measurable problem, baseline and decision rule, then verify whether the change improved the process without creating another risk.
