QAPP CI · SUPPORTING CI METHOD
Gemba Walk
Structure direct process observation before proposing solutions.
When it helps
Structure direct process observation before proposing solutions.
Data and preparation
Purpose, area, factual observations, deviations, questions, actions and follow-up
Practical workflow
- Define the purpose of the walk.
- Observe and ask without turning it into a punitive audit.
- Separate facts from interpretation.
- Record obstacles and opportunities.
- Follow actions and return to verify results.
What QAPP records
| Before | During | After |
|---|---|---|
| Scope, baseline, ownership, evidence | Actions, timestamps, observations, exceptions | Result, effectiveness, standard update, follow-up |
Connection to AIAG
This is a supporting Continuous Improvement method, not an AIAG Core Tool. In QAPP, findings can feed a CQI-20/8D problem-solving workflow and, when the process risk/control changes, trigger review of PFMEA, Control Plan, MSA/SPC or other applicable Core Tool records.
Interpretation limits
Do not use the tool as a ritual. Define a measurable problem, baseline and decision rule, then verify whether the change improved the process without creating another risk.
